Building Our Care Infrastructure

The cover page for our 2020 report, Building Our Care Infrastructure for Equity, Economic Recovery and Beyond

The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the financial strain felt by parents and caregivers, especially Black and immigrant women who disproportionately provide care for others’ families as well as their own.

In September 2020, Caring Across Generations, the National Domestic Workers Alliance and over 60 partners found that expanding access to quality childcare and community- and home-based care would create jobs quickly, spur job growth in other sectors, and ensure financial stability for professional and informal caregivers. Like transportation, energy and public health, a robust care “infrastructure” with comprehensive policies and workforces will allow all people to provide for their families and contribute to the economy.
